Professor Alexandra Audemard-Verger is a Senior clinician and Academic resercher specializing in Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology. She joined Tours University in 2019. She combines high-impact clinical activity, academic leadership, and translational research on autoimmune in adults, with a overreaching focus on Systemic Vasculitis.
As Head of International Relations at the Tours Medical School, Professor Audemard-Verger plays a strategic role in expanding the global outreach of the Faculty. She leads initiatives to accelerate international academic engagement, including:
• establishing and scaling new student exchange programs,
• building sustainable partnerships with medical schools and teaching hospitals worldwide,
• strengthening cross-border educational pathways and fostering international mobility as a core value of the institution.
The Faculty of Medicine delivers a structured portfolio of international medical student exchange programs with partner universities in Birmingham (United Kingdom), San José (Costa Rica), and Örebro (Sweden), thereby enhancing academic mobility and global exposure for our students.
In parallel, Professor Audemard-Verger coordinates the Adult Rare Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Diseases Competence Center (CeRAINOM) within the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology at CHU Tours. Her clinical expertise spans:
• Systemic vasculitides (Takayasu arteritis, IgA vasculitis, ANCA-associated vasculitis),
• Systemic lupus erythematosus,
• Rare autoinflammatory diseases including Adult-onset Still’s disease, VEXAS syndrome, and familial Mediterranean fever.
She leads a multidisciplinary team providing advanced diagnostic capabilities and comprehensive long-term management for patients with rare and autoimmune diseases.
Professor Audemard-Verger is deeply engaged in Clinical and Translational Research, with her central research theme dedicated to Vasculitis, focusing on pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic innovation, and therapeutic development.
As an active contributor to the European vasculitis research landscape, she has played a pivotal role in shaping collective knowledge and clinical frameworks.
In 2021, she founded and now coordinates an international European research consortium on adult IgA vasculitis (EUGAVAS study group), which produced the first European recommendations for the treatment of adult IgA vasculitis. This initiative has significantly structured research efforts in the field and positioned the group as a reference for clinical management and evidence-based therapeutic guidance. Her research agenda aims to accelerate innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of vasculitis and to support evidence-based care for patients.
A committed educator, she contributes extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching, supervises theses and research projects, and engages actively in academic governance.
Regularly invited to speak at international conferences and expert meetings, she plays a key role in global scientific dialogue, supporting knowledge dissemination and collaborative research initiatives in vasculitis.
She also serves on the Board of the French National Society of Internal Medicine (SNFMI) and co-chaired its 91st National Congress in Tours in December 2025, reflecting her strong leadership in the national academic landscape.
