Searching for Hispanic identity in the USA.
The present focalization on anti-Hispanic sentiment in the USA, particularly as voiced by the current
President Donald Trump, fails to account for the special place of Hispanic Americans in the history of the
country. A colonized minority before they were stigmatized as immigrants and presumed to be illegals,
Mexican Americans in particular have a unique understanding of cultural exchanges and the permeability of
borders. This class will examine the questions of territory, language, and spirituality from both Anglo and
Latino perspectives.
